In an attempt to combat the curses, Itadori swallows “Sukuna’s Finger”, managing to defeat the cursed spirits but also becoming the host of the special grade cursed object, Ryomen Sukuna. As a result, Itadori is sentenced to execution by the Jujutsu sorcerers due to the threat he now poses.
Before diving into the analysis of Kashimo Hajime’s final death scene and the possibility of his resurrection, let’s first introduce the character. Kashimo Hajime is a character from the “Shibuya Incident Arc” of “Jujutsu Kaisen”. In this arc, the story’s central antagonist, Kenjaku, orchestrates a battle royale. Kashimo Hajime, who died 400 years before the modern setting of “Jujutsu Kaisen”, was resurrected by Kenjaku to participate in this deadly event.
Although he died of old age 400 years ago, Kenjaku resurrected him in the form of a young man with blue hair. Kashimo Hajime was inherently combative, seeking out fights with strong opponents. He preferred direct confrontations, eschewing underhanded tactics, and fought with his own strength. Even in his old age, he was powerful enough to make Sukuna take him seriously, capable of killing multiple sorcerers alone while coughing blood.
In “Jujutsu Kaisen”, Kashimo Hajime utilizes cursed energy with properties similar to electricity. This ability allows him to bypass an enemy’s weapons and deliver electric shocks. His technique “Phantom Beast Amber” maximizes the potential of his cursed energy. It sends electrical signals to his brain to enhance his agility and can even vaporize an opponent’s body.
This powerful technique can bypass weapons and destroy bodily cells, but Kashimo Hajime had never used “Phantom Beast Amber” before fighting Sukuna. The reason is that using “Phantom Beast Amber” would result in Kashimo Hajime’s own death. The technique temporarily enhances various abilities by reconstructing his body with electrical signals, but the physical strain is too much to bear, leading to the user’s death.
Therefore, Kashimo Hajime had refrained from using “Phantom Beast Amber” until he faced Sukuna, whom he considered stronger than anyone he had met before. In his battle against Sukuna, Kashimo Hajime unleashed this ability and ultimately met his end.
Kashimo Hajime appears in the Shibuya Incident Arc of “Jujutsu Kaisen” after being resurrected by Kenjaku. Eager for a battle with strong opponents, Kashimo eagerly awaited a fight with Sukuna. However, Satoru Gojo, a special grade sorcerer, was initially deployed against Sukuna. Despite this, Kashimo, wanting to fight Sukuna, declared that he would step in if Gojo was defeated. As promised, after Gojo’s defeat at the hands of Sukuna, Kashimo became Sukuna’s next opponent.
Uraume, who was accompanying Sukuna, and a member of the same faction as Kashimo, Kinji Hakari, held off other intruders. In a situation devoid of interference, Kashimo set the stage for his battle with Sukuna, conversing with him during the fight. Focused on strength, Kashimo asked Sukuna, “Were you the strongest from the moment you were born?”
Sukuna replied to Kashimo’s question, stating that he was at least treated as a cursed child. Kashimo then inquired, “How does the one deemed the strongest cherish others? Is living in solitude the only way?” Hearing this, Sukuna laughed at Kashimo’s words, calling him a “luxury.”
To fight his ultimate enemy, Sukuna, Kashimo Hajime betrays Kenjaku, who resurrected him, and decides to aid the sorcerers’ faction. His wish is granted, and Kashimo confronts Sukuna, using his technique “Phantom Beast Amber” to maximize his abilities. Using “Phantom Beast Amber” results in the destruction of the user’s body, leading inevitably to death. It is a double-edged sword, allowed only in front of a worthy opponent, even at the cost of one’s life.
With this life-risking technique, Kashimo was able to fight on par with Sukuna. Sukuna suffered injuries from Kashimo’s shockwave attacks and other techniques. Subsequently, Sukuna revealed his true form, which had been hidden until then.
Kashimo Hajime died following his desired battle with Sukuna. In response to the injuries inflicted by Kashimo’s “Phantom Beast Amber,” Sukuna transformed his body through incarnation. Sukuna’s new form had four eyes and arms, and a mouth appeared on his abdomen.
This transformation allowed him to attack with two free hands while maintaining hand seals and to chant spells continuously with two mouths. Kashimo, witnessing Sukuna’s body designed purely for battle, described him as “beautiful.” However, Kashimo could not dodge Sukuna’s net-like slashes and met his end.
In this section titled “Analyzing Kashimo Hajime and Sukuna’s Conversation and the Possibility of Resurrection in ‘Jujutsu Kaisen'”, we delve into the meaning behind the dialogue between Kashimo Hajime and Sukuna during their battle, and speculate whether Kashimo might reappear in future storylines. First, let’s analyze the conversation between Kashimo Hajime and Sukuna. During their battle, Kashimo asked Sukuna, “How does one who is considered the strongest cherish others?” Sukuna responded to this by laughing and calling Kashimo a “luxury.”
Why did Sukuna respond with “luxury”? It can be speculated that Sukuna perceives being thought of as “strong” as being loved. In their conversation, Sukuna presents his view to Kashimo, stating, “To be strong is to be loved, and it means responding to that love.” From this dialogue, it appears that Sukuna saw Kashimo as someone who is already loved by others but is troubled by his unawareness of it, hence considering it a “luxury.” Sukuna also remarked, “The ‘love’ that one seeks to be fulfilled by others is trivial.” Hearing this, Kashimo retorted, “You’ll get bored, won’t you?”
Kashimo’s remark suggests that he, like Sukuna, might have once believed “love is trivial” and grew tired of a life repeatedly filled with battles but lacking equal adversaries. Perhaps realizing the essence of “love” made his battles more enjoyable.
The likelihood of Kashimo Hajime reappearing in the story of “Jujutsu Kaisen” seems low. After being killed by Sukuna, Kashimo moved to a realm that is not part of the living world, presumably the afterlife, suggesting his complete demise. Furthermore, having achieved his goal of battling Sukuna, Kashimo likely had no lingering attachments to the living world and accepted his death.
This section introduces the key moments of Kashimo Hajime in “Jujutsu Kaisen.” First, we discuss Kashimo becoming a participant in the Culling Game. Known for his love of combat in life, Kashimo never experienced a truly exhilarating fight until his final moments. Before his death, he encountered Kenjaku and heard about Sukuna, the “strongest sorcerer.” This ignited Kashimo’s dream to battle Sukuna, and he decided to become a cursed object after death to someday resurrect and confront Sukuna. His resurrection in the present world was triggered by Kenjaku’s initiation of the Culling Game. Revived, Kashimo amassed points by killing other sorcerers and added rules to the Game, making it easier to locate Sukuna.
Kashimo Hajime encountered Kinji Hakari, a third-year student at Jujutsu High, and engaged in combat. In this scene, Kashimo struggled against Hakari’s domain expansion “Idle Death Gamble,” which enhances Hakari’s abilities based on a pachinko machine’s outcome within the domain. Hakari gained the upper hand by hitting consecutive jackpots. Eventually, Hakari exploited Kashimo’s weakness to water by pushing him into the sea. However, Kashimo countered by decomposing seawater to generate chlorine gas, catching Hakari off-guard. Despite this, Kashimo was defeated as Hakari managed to avoid an underwater explosion.
After the battle with Hakari, Kashimo is seen negotiating with him. Hakari, interested in utilizing the 100 points Kashimo possessed, agreed to let Kashimo face Sukuna in battle if the opportunity arose. Kashimo, whose goal was to fight Sukuna, secured a promise from Hakari to facilitate this confrontation. With Hakari’s agreement, Kashimo started cooperating with the sorcerers’ faction.
This section summarizes the death of Kashimo Hajime in the “Shibuya Incident” arc of “Jujutsu Kaisen.” Kashimo Hajime, a battle enthusiast who found his purpose in fighting, dreamed of battling Sukuna, the sorcerer renowned as the “strongest.” Resurrected by Kenjaku for the Culling Game battle royale, Kashimo encountered Sukuna in the game.
The intense battle between them was unyielding, but ultimately, Kashimo was defeated by an unavoidable slash attack from Sukuna, leading to his death. Following his death, Kashimo was seen in a place that wasn’t part of the living world, indicating his complete demise. Given that he achieved his life’s goal of battling Sukuna, it’s unlikely that Kashimo Hajime will reappear in the future storyline of “Jujutsu Kaisen.”
