“Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045 The Last Human”

<Introduction> In a near future where people’s minds are connected to the “cyberbrain,” Major Motoko Kusanagi leads Public Security Section 9, a fully cyborgized anti-crime unit combating cybercrime. Originating from the original manga “Ghost in the Shell” by Masamune Shirow, published in 1989, the “Ghost in the Shell” franchise has expanded into various works, including animation and Hollywood live-action films. The latest series, “Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045,” is co-directed by Kenji Kamiyama of the “Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex” series and Shinji Aramaki of the “APPLESEED” series, with Atsuko Tanaka, Akio Otsuka, and Koichi Yamadera among other original cast members from the “Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex” series reuniting. The theatrical version of Season 1, “Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045 Sustainable War,” was released in theaters in November 2021, continuously gaining new fans with its vivid sci-fi action and forward-looking world and drama. Following “Sustainable War,” “The Last Human” is directed by Michihito Fujii, known for the Japan Academy Prize-winning film “The Journalist” and “The Family,” reconstructing Season 2 with new scenes and perspectives into a theatrical release. The finale of the series is depicted. (Theatrically released on November 23, 2023)

<Story> Motoko Kusanagi and Public Security Section 9 encounter Takashi Shimamura, the leader of the refugee group “N.” The post-human raid begins in the ruins of Tokyo, approaching the singularity of evolution. In 2045, with the occurrence of the global simultaneous default, an economic catastrophe that shakes all nations, and the explosive evolution of AI, the world has entered a planned and sustainable war. However, the near future is not yet decayed enough for people to feel the threat of human extinction by AI on a daily level. To prevent cybercrimes committed by the newly emerged post-humans in the cyber society, Public Security Section 9 is reorganized under the Prime Minister’s secret orders. Pursuing Togusa, who went missing while searching for Takashi Shimamura, who is believed to have awakened as a post-human in Japan, Motoko Kusanagi and her team head to Tokyo, which was devastated by the previous great war. There, they encounter the refugee group calling themselves “N” and an assault by American special forces. As the threat of a nuclear war looms with the capture of a nuclear submarine, the three-way battle between Public Security Section 9, the Americans, and the post-humans intensifies.
