The “Gege Akutami ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ Exhibition,” a major exhibition delving into the creative secrets behind the wildly popular manga “Jujutsu Kaisen” currently serialized in “Weekly Shonen Jump,” is set to take place from Saturday, July 6, to Tuesday, August 27, at Hikarie Hall inside Shibuya Hikarie. A newly drawn key visual for the exhibition was unveiled for the first time, alongside the announcement of new details including the exhibition schedule and ticket sales information.
“Jujutsu Kaisen” (written by Gege Akutami), a hugely popular comic serialized in “Weekly Shonen Jump” (published by Shueisha), has surpassed a total of 90 million copies in circulation (including digital editions). The first season of its TV anime adaptation was broadcast from October 2020 to March 2021, generating significant buzz not only domestically but also around the world. Its first film adaptation, “Jujutsu Kaisen 0,” released in December 2021, recorded a blockbuster global box office revenue of 26.5 billion yen, sparking a major movement. From July 2023, the second season of the TV anime, featuring the “Kaigyoku-Gyokuji / Shibuya Incident” arcs, was broadcasted on the MBS/TBS network across 28 stations nationwide, concluding to great acclaim.
The exhibition showcases the digital creation process of “Jujutsu Kaisen” in its entirety, accompanied by commentary from the author, Gege Akutami. It’s a must-see for fans, revealing how the story, characters, and illustrations were conceived, evolved, and reached new heights, with generous displays of valuable name rough drafts and sketches that preceded the final manuscripts.
The key visual, revealed for the first time, is a completely original piece drawn by the creator, Gege Akutami, specifically for this exhibition. It features the protagonist, Yuji Itadori, alongside the distinctively shaped Sukuna, with four arms, four eyes, and two mouths, conveying a sense of power and awe.
