Season 2 of “The Apothecary Diaries” Announced! Teaser Visual and PV Released!

Amidst the excitement following the final episode, it has been announced that Season 2 of the TV anime “The Apothecary Diaries” will be broadcast in 2025! Along with this announcement, a teaser visual and a teaser PV have also been released.

Set in the imperial harem, “The Apothecary Diaries” is a hugely popular palace mystery entertainment series that has sold over 33 million copies. The series features a young girl serving as a poison taster, solving various difficult cases. The anime started broadcasting in October 2023 on various platforms and has consistently ranked high in viewership rankings. The final episode, titled “Jinshi and Maomao,” aired on March 23 (Saturday). Amidst voices expressing regret that the show was ending, such as “I can’t believe it’s already the final episode. Our fun is coming to an end!” and “It felt so short even though it was two cours…”, the production of Season 2 was confirmed to air in 2025 shortly after the final episode concluded.

The teaser visual features Maomao and Jinshi standing back to back, with snow swirling around them and light shining from behind. Maomao’s chest is adorned with a hairpin given by Jinshi, hinting at new mysteries the two will face.

The teaser PV reveals a series of mysteries left unsolved in Season 1, including Empress Gyokuyou’s pregnancy, the power shifts within the harem, the entrance of Roulan, the daughter of the influential Choushou, an assassination attempt on Jinshi, and the disappearance of Suiren, who is suspected to be behind the incident. New challenges await Maomao and Jinshi. What future lies ahead for them in Season 2? The anticipation for the next season’s development is mounting.

Celebratory comments and illustrations have arrived from the original author, character designer, and cast. Natsu Hyuuga, the author, stated, “Originally, I wrote the Apothecary with the mindset that it would beautifully end at the fourth volume, so if the episodes after the third volume are animated, all I can do is pray. The sense of discomfort that viewers might have felt during the first season will likely be resolved in the second season.”

An celebratory illustration from the character designer, Touco Shino, has also arrived! It features Maomao, Jinshi, and Roulan, who was portrayed as a key character in Season 1. Their actions in Season 2 are also highly anticipated.

Aoi Yūki, the voice actress for Maomao, commented, “There are still many captivating scenes in the original work that I believe many people would want to see animated. I want to see them! I want to act them out! There are so many such scenes! I’m sure it will be a wonderful work, so I hope you look forward to it!”

Takuya Otsuka, the voice actor for Jinshi, shared, “I can’t wait to see how certain stories and characters will be depicted in Season 2. I cherish what we’ve built up in the first season and will continue to give my all in portraying Jinshi.”

As the original author, I’m not only delighted but also deeply grateful, as this was something I couldn’t have achieved on my own. Originally, I wrote “The Apothecary Diaries” with the intention of beautifully concluding at the fourth volume, so the adaptation of the episodes beyond the third volume into anime is something for which I can only express my gratitude. Series Overview

Story In a large country at the heart of the continent lies the imperial harem, home to the emperor’s consorts. Among them is a girl named Maomao. Once a pharmacist in the pleasure district, she now works menial jobs within the harem. One day, she learns that all the emperor’s children have been short-lived. Hearing that the two current princes are gradually weakening from illness, Maomao begins to investigate the cause out of pure curiosity, dismissive of the idea that it could be a curse. Jinshi, a beautiful eunuch, assigns her as the poison taster for the emperor’s favorite consort. Although she has no interest in people, her obsession with poison and medicine is unparalleled, and the pharmacist from the pleasure district gets involved in rumors and incidents. Despite being burdened with increasingly troublesome matters by Jinshi, Maomao continues to do her job. The rare poison-loving girl runs through the harem again today.
