The immensely popular rhythm and adventure game “Project Sekai: Colorful Stage! feat. Hatsune Miku,” which has surpassed 39 million downloads worldwide, is set to be adapted into its first anime film! The film will be released in theaters on Friday, January 17, 2025, featuring a new portrayal of Hatsune Miku not seen in the game. The main visual and teaser have been unveiled.

“Project Sekai: Colorful Stage! feat. Hatsune Miku” (hereinafter “Project Sekai”) is an iOS/Android rhythm and adventure game developed in collaboration between SEGA, known for the “Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA” series, and Colorful Palette, a subsidiary of CyberAgent Group. This title features Hatsune Miku, a virtual singer developed by Crypton Future Media using their voice synthesis software.

The announcement of the anime film adaptation of the immensely popular app game “Project Sekai: Colorful Stage! feat. Hatsune Miku” (commonly known as “Proseka”), which launched in September 2020 and has surpassed 39 million downloads worldwide, has been made. This will be the first movie depicting the immensely popular virtual singer Hatsune Miku. The film is titled “Project Sekai: The Movie – The Broken World and the Songless Miku.” This will be the first anime film adaptation of “Project Sekai,” scheduled for nationwide release in theaters on Friday, January 17, 2025. The film will feature a new Hatsune Miku, not depicted in the game, and will have a completely original story.

Additionally, a teaser video and main visual have been released, and the official X (formerly Twitter) account and official website for the film have also been launched.

In the newly released main visual, Hatsune Miku is depicted crouching sadly in “Shibuya,” a city known for its vibrant music-centric subculture, surrounded by noise. Despite many people passing by her, no one seems to notice her, and her reflection is absent in the water at her feet. What is Miku thinking with her forlorn expression, and what does her presence signify? Stay tuned for further updates.

The animation for this film is being produced by P.A.WORKS, known for works such as “SHIROBAKO” and “Skip and Loafer.” The teaser video, created from scenes in the film, features a new depiction of Hatsune Miku not seen in the game and familiar characters from the game reimagined in the theatrical animation.

Hatsune Miku: She wishes to “deliver a song” to certain people, but her song, mixed with noise, cannot reach them, leaving her troubled.

The teaser, connected by Miku’s narration, features a surprising caption: “The Miku who cannot sing,” followed by “My voice can’t reach the people I want to deliver it to. I want to know how to deliver my song. Teach me about you.” The teaser introduces familiar characters from “Project Sekai” such as Ichika Hoshino, known for her distinctive long black hair, and a new version of Miku with an “X” motif on her head. Who does this new Miku want to deliver her song to, and why can’t she sing? Don’t miss future updates.

Work Overview

Introduction The original story is set in “Shibuya,” a city known for its vibrant music-centric subculture, and in “Sekai,” a mysterious space reflecting people’s true feelings. It follows the journey of boys and girls discovering their true feelings and their own songs. The app game “Project Sekai: Colorful Stage! feat. Hatsune Miku” (abbreviated as “Proseka”) also features virtual singers like “Hatsune Miku.” In this film, a new Hatsune Miku not seen in the game meets and grows alongside the characters of “Proseka,” depicted in a completely original story by the animation studio P.A.WORKS.

Synopsis “Tell me about yourself. Maybe then I’ll understand how to sing.” Ichika Hoshino hears a song by Miku that she’s never heard before in a CD shop. She finds a Miku she’s never seen before on a monitor and instinctively calls out, “Miku!?” Surprised by her voice, Miku makes eye contact with Ichika but soon disappears. Later, Miku appears on Ichika’s phone after a street performance. Miku, looking forlorn, explains that despite wanting to deliver her songs to certain people, her songs mixed with noise can’t reach them. Inspired by Ichika’s ability to touch many hearts through her live performances, Miku hopes that by getting to know Ichika, she can do the same. Ichika, smiling, responds, “If I can help,” and thus begins a new story for Hatsune Miku and the boys and girls.
