Anime

The third season of the anime Re-Starting Life in Another World, based on the light novel by Tappei Nagatsuki, is set to begin airing in October 2024.

To commemorate the advance theatrical release of the first episode, titled “Theater of Malice,” on August 30, a Japan Premiere Carpet Event was held at Kabukicho Cinecity Plaza. The event featured appearances by voice actors Yusuke Kobayashi (Subaru Natsuki), Rie Takahashi (Emilia), Nobuhiko Okamoto (Garfiel Tinsel), Kohei Amasaki (Otto Suwen), Aya Yamane (Lilliana Masquerade), and Chika Anzai (Sirius Romanée-Conti), who engaged with the gathered fans and participated in a lively talk show. Let’s take a look at the highlights of this event.

From the moment the cast appeared to the red carpet walk, fans were ecstatic.
The event began with the cast making their entrance, followed by a carpet walk where they interacted with fans, answered questions from the press, and concluded with a talk session and photo session.

When the event kicked off with a start call from Yusuke Kobayashi, the atmosphere at the venue instantly reached a fever pitch. It was clear just how beloved Reis. In addition to the cast, mascots of Rem and Ram, with their large, deformed heads reminiscent of plush toys, made an appearance alongside Emilia-tan. Rie Takahashi couldn’t help but exclaim, “So cute!!” in admiration.

Then came the moment fans had eagerly awaited—the carpet walk. The excitement was palpable as fans’ anticipation grew. The cast members responded to the cheers by waving, chatting, and walking along the red carpet, bringing smiles to everyone in attendance. However, it wasn’t just the cast who spread joy. Despite the event taking place under the scorching sun, Kohei Amasaki expressed his gratitude by saying, “It was really cool, thanks to the fans fanning us with the uchiwa distributed at the venue!” This connection with fans felt like a quintessential Reexperience.

Moved by the Cast Talk Filled with ReLove!
For fans, interacting with the cast is undoubtedly exciting, but the content of the third season is also a significant point of interest. To satisfy this curiosity, the event included interviews and a talk session with the cast and media representatives. When asked about the highlights of the third season, Yusuke Kobayashi enthusiastically replied, “It’s packed with battles that are perfect for anime, and every character has their moment to shine.” When asked about their favorite character, Kobayashi chose “Emilia,” while Rie Takahashi chose “Subaru.” For Takahashi, Subaru’s transformation into a knight in the previous season’s finale had a significant impact. Interestingly, Aya Yamane mentioned “Beatrice” as her favorite, revealing that she was so fond of the character that she was once scolded for performing in Beatrice’s style during recording sessions.

Kobayashi also shared his thoughts on his approach to the third season. Initially, he approached the recording sessions with the same mindset as before, but with the growth of the group around Emilia, the loneliness he had felt in his heart began to dissipate. He noted that “no matter how tough the scenes are, I can face them positively now.” This resonated deeply with fans. Subaru has faced numerous failures, and many of the endings were truly heartbreaking. Moreover, his battles were often solitary, as he couldn’t share the secret of his ability to return by death. Thinking that Subaru has finally been freed from such hardships is truly touching. It made me want to say, “You’ve done well, Subaru!” from the bottom of my heart.

The talk session continued with the cast introducing themselves in their characters’ voices. Not only did the original members perform their famous lines live, but the new members also revealed their character voices for the first time outside of PVs, which added to the excitement. Nobuhiko Okamoto and Kohei Amasaki hinted at the first episode’s 90-minute length with comments like “Time will fly by,” and “Better finish your popcorn quickly,” heightening the anticipation for the story’s developments. Aya Yamane also shared a funny episode about practicing the numerous in-story songs while singing in the bath.

Additionally, Chika Anzai talked about her preparation for voicing Sirius Romanée-Conti. After watching all the episodes, she quickly read the script for the first episode of the third season and realized just how “intense” her character is, which influenced her approach to the role. When asked about the charm of Re, Takahashi highlighted that, much like Emilia discovering her true self after overcoming trials, the characters, including Beatrice, are on a journey of self-discovery, which is a major appeal.

The talk session also featured questions about the setting of the story. Reis known for its “Return by Death” concept, and when asked if there was anything in their lives they wished they could redo, Okamoto mentioned how he overdid muscle training in the badminton club during middle school, which stunted his growth. Kobayashi agreed, joking that while his current height is optimal for voice acting in front of a microphone, he still wished he could have reached 170 cm. However, Kobayashi firmly stated that he has no regrets. “The fact that I’ve struggled and lived through all this time is what makes me who I am today,” he said, a sentiment that likely comes from his experience playing Subaru, who has undergone multiple “Returns by Death.” As a fan, I wholeheartedly agree that this perspective makes Kobayashi’s portrayal of Subaru even more compelling.

Despite the scorching heat, the talk filled with the cast’s love for Remade the event feel like a brief moment of happiness. The event concluded with the cast raising their hands in the familiar “Victory!” pose from Re, making it even more exciting to anticipate the third season. The advance theatrical release of the first episode is not to be missed!
