AmiAmi Opens Akihabara Figure Tower Store, Featuring 8 Floors of Figures
On July 19, AmiAmi officially opened the “AmiAmi Akihabara Figure Tower Store,” a shop in Tokyo’s Akihabara district that spans all 8 floors, exclusively dedicated to figures. Since its soft opening in April with only the first floor in operation, the store had gradually expanded to cover up to the third floor. Now, with the grand opening of all floors, a new mecca for figure enthusiasts has been born, where an entire building is dedicated to the world of figures.
To celebrate the grand opening, a media preview event was held on July 18, the day before the official launch. Here’s a report on the event.
With the grand opening, the previously sealed-off floors from the 4th to the 8th have now been opened. While floors 1 through 7 each showcase figures based on different themes, the 8th floor serves as an event space for various purposes, such as autograph sessions related to the world of figures.
The first event to be held here is the “Warehouse Sale,” taking place for three days only, from July 19 to July 21. As the name suggests, the event offers rare and valuable figures for sale, gathered from various sources, making it a special opportunity for collectors.
The 4th floor mainly features items related to robots, tokusatsu (special effects), and American comic book figures. Titles like Kamen Rider, Ultraman, Godzilla, and other Japanese hero and tokusatsu works are on display, alongside figures from MCU titles like Spider-Man.
A unique aspect of this floor is the inclusion of plastic models, such as Gunpla. While many of the models are second-hand, there are some rare finds, including limited-edition items from Premium Bandai, giving collectors the chance to discover hidden treasures.
The 5th floor showcases a wide array of bishoujo (beautiful girl) anime figures, featuring popular titles like “Re- Starting Life in Another World” and “KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!” It’s worth noting that, like the other floors, the products sold here are not limited to new figures but also include pre-owned items. Pre-owned figures are marked with yellow tape on the shelves for easy identification.
Additionally, the store has a consistent layout across floors, with figures organized by series, such as “Sword Art Online,” making it easy for customers to find the items they’re looking for. It’s a handy feature for those seeking specific figures, allowing them to quickly check availability.
Even though the 6th floor also focuses on bishoujo figures, the store’s detailed genre classification is a distinctive feature of the “AmiAmi Akihabara Figure Tower Store.” On this floor, figures from mobile game franchises like The Idolmaster, Love Live!, Azur Lane, and Genshin Impact are sold, along with figures of VTubers.
The 7th floor showcases items such as figures based on original works by illustrators, as well as adult-themed, sexy figures. Among the unique displays, the Elf Village series figures stood out, with a full lineup of works being sold. It was quite impressive to see such a large collection in one place, which was a first-time experience for me.
While this was a brief introduction, the “AmiAmi Akihabara Figure Tower Store” aims to become Japan’s top destination for figure collectors, where they can easily find any figure they’re looking for. There’s also the AmiAmi Akihabara Radio Kaikan Store nearby, which caters more to casual users, whereas the Figure Tower Store offers a more focused and dense lineup of products for serious collectors.
From July 19 to 21, a special campaign is being held to celebrate the grand opening. For every 5,000 yen spent at the “AmiAmi Akihabara Figure Tower Store,” customers can participate in a lottery to win figures. Additionally, those who make a purchase will receive an exclusive AmiAmi original sticker. Be sure to visit the store this weekend and take part in the festivities!
