When Will Ayumu Make His Move?” is a school romantic comedy manga based on shogi (Japanese chess) that has been serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine since March 2019. The author is Soichiro Yamamoto, famous for his popular romantic comedy manga “Mr. Takagi, the Karakagee”, which has sold more than 1 million copies in total (as of July 2021).
When Will Ayumu Make His Move?” will be adapted into a TV anime. Directed by Mirai Minato, series composition by Deko Akao, character design by Kazuya Hirata, and produced by SILVER LINK, the anime is scheduled to be broadcast on TBS and other networks from July 2022.
When Will Ayumu Make His Move?” episode 1, the heroine Yaotome Urushi, a high school sophomore who calls herself the head of the Shogi Club, and her junior Tanaka Ayumu, a high school boy who is a Shogi beginner, were playing a game alone in the club room. Ayumu’s face twists at Urushi’s move. Ayumu was confident in his expression, but blushed when Ayumu said “cute” without changing his expression.
Ayumu, wanting Ayumu to admit that he likes her, boldly asks Ayumu, “You like me, don’t you? Ayumu presses Urushi again, telling her that she is being aggressive. Ayumu is embarrassed and says that Ayumu usually calls him “cute” and so on. Ayumu, however, tells him flatly, “It’s not that I’m attacking you, it’s just that it’s the truth. Meanwhile, Urushi’s forehead is violently upset. Ayumu cannot hide his upset when Ayumu continues to talk to him as “sempai” (senpai).
However, Ayumu’s words were “Mai shimashita,” an admission of defeat in the game of shogi. Ayumu was a little disappointed, but soon realized that Ayumu was talking about Shogi, and said to Ayumu, “You have to learn how to attack more.
The first character in “When Will Ayumu Make His Move?” is Ayumu Tanaka. He is a first-year student in the Shogi Club and is very athletic. In junior high school, he was a member of the kendo club.
