Anime “Onimusha” to Start Streaming on November 2, Starring Akio Ōtsuka as Miyamoto Musashi, Toshihiko Seki as Sasaki Kojirō

Miyamoto Musashi embarks on a journey to slay phantom demons with the “Demon Gauntlet” in hand.

On September 20, 2023 (Wed), Netflix announced that the anime “Onimusha” will be exclusively streaming from November 2, 2023 (Thu). A trailer, key visuals, and cast information have also been released.

The “Onimusha” series is a Sengoku-era action game by Capcom, featuring historical figures as protagonists. It has gained attention each time for employing real actors as models for the characters, such as Takeshi Kaneshiro, Yusaku Matsuda, and Jean Reno.

The anime “Onimusha” is the first animation adaptation of this game series. In September 2022, it was announced that Takashi Miike would be the general director, with Miyamoto Musashi as the protagonist and actor Toshiro Mifune as the character model.

The story is set in the early Edo period, a time moving towards peace after years of warfare. Miyamoto Musashi, under a secret mission, borrows the legendary “Demon Gauntlet” and embarks on a journey to slay the suddenly appeared monster, “phantom demon.”

Akio Ōtsuka, who has played the role of Oda Nobunaga in the “Onimusha” game series for over ten years and also played Miyamoto Musashi in “Onimusha: Buraiden,” will be voicing Miyamoto Musashi. He has also played the game himself. Additionally, Ryōhei Kimura is cast as Iemon, Toshihiko Seki as Sasaki Kojirō, and the newly announced cast includes Yoshitada Ōtsuka, Daiki Yamashita, Subaru Kimura, Katsuyuki Konishi, Kazuyuki Okitsu, Makoto Furukawa, Aya Yamané, and others.
