IKEA, a furniture manufacturer, exhibits furniture for gamers. They have a new desk with an electric lift function and a chair with a relaxed design.

IKEA, a furniture manufacturer, is exhibiting at the Tokyo Game Show 2021 for the first time. “You may be wondering, “Why is IKEA at a game show? However, the company is collaborating with ASUSTeK Computer’s gamer brand “Republic of Gamers” (ROG) to sell furniture for gamers in Japan from April 2021. Let’s take a look at the company’s booth, where new products were also on display.

IKEA has more than 25 products for gamers, including chairs, desks, storage furniture, and accessories. Not all of these products are co-developed with ROG, but some of them are developed by IKEA based on the know-how gained from the collaboration. It’s a bit complicated, but when I asked at the booth, they told me that you can tell if a product has the ROG logo on it, it’s a jointly developed product.

The strength of IKEA’s furniture for gamers is the low price and the wide range of products that can be coordinated to fit the room. IKEA offers a wide variety of furniture, not just for gamers, and it’s easy to unify the atmosphere of the furniture in the room, which is a unique point. Perhaps with this in mind, IKEA offers many white and gray products in addition to the black and red ones that are often used for gamers.

On display as a new product this time was the “UPSPEL Game Desk,” a desk with an electric lift function. Sales of this product started today (October 1, 2021), and it is available in two sizes: L (top panel 180 x 80 cm) and M (140 x 80 cm). The direct sales prices are 84,990 yen (tax included) and 79,990 yen (tax included), in that order.
It can be raised and lowered with the touch of a button, and up to four profiles can be saved, making it easy to adjust the height to your liking.

Also on display was the GRUPPSPEL gaming chair, a chair for gamers that will go on sale in January 2022. This is a version of IKEA’s previous chair for gamers with enhanced armrest adjustment. In the past, the armrests could only be adjusted in height and forward/backward, but this new product supports left/right angle adjustment as well.

The price is yet to be determined, but three types of products have been announced: a black one with cowhide leather seat and back, a dark gray and red one with polyester, and a white and brown one also with polyester.

Even though it’s made of polyester, it’s not a mesh, but an upholstery, which is unusual for a chair for gamers. When I asked him about it, he told me that this process is popular among office chairs handled by IKEA, and they decided to use it for the gamer’s chair so that they can sit comfortably for a long time.

In particular, the white and brown chairs have a “normal chair” feel that doesn’t look like a product for gamers, which is one of IKEA’s strengths. I’m sure it will meet your needs.
