If you only have an hour between trains, you can still get a real sense of Akihabara. This is the shortest route that still covers the essentials.
The One-Hour Route
One hour is enough to see Akihabara’s core without rushing, as long as you accept you won’t go inside everything.
0–5 min: Arrive and get oriented
Exit at the Electric Town Exit. Radio Kaikan is directly in front of you.
5–25 min: Radio Kaikan, one or two floors
Don’t try to cover all ten floors. Pick one focus — Card Labo (9F) for cards, or Kaiyodo/Kotobukiya-adjacent floors for figures — and use the escalator rather than waiting for the lift.
25–30 min: Walk to Mandarake
Under five minutes on foot toward the main street.
30–50 min: Mandarake Complex
Pick two floors that match what you’re after rather than working through all eight. The tax-free counter is on 2F if you’re buying.
50–60 min: Suruga-ya, or backtrack to the station
Suruga-ya is one minute from Mandarake if you have time left. Otherwise, retrace your steps — it’s a five-minute walk back to the station from here.
If You Have Two Hours
With an extra hour, add either Hareruya (5 minutes from Suruga-ya) for trading cards, or Kotobukiya (3 minutes from Suruga-ya) for figures — not both, unless you’re prepared to move quickly. Gachapon Kaikan, under 5 minutes from Mandarake, is a low-effort addition if you have 15 minutes spare at the end.
Before You Go
This assumes you’re starting from the Electric Town Exit and don’t need to return anywhere specific — if you’re catching a train, build in five minutes to get back to the station.
The main trade-off on a tight schedule is Radio Kaikan versus Mandarake: both reward more time than an hour allows, so decide in advance which one gets priority.
