Super Potato is the best-known retro game shop in Akihabara, and one of the few places where you can still buy — and play — hardware and cartridges going back to the Famicom era.

What’s on Each Floor
Floors 3 and 4 are dedicated to retro consoles, cartridges and hardware — this is where the serious shopping happens. Floor 5 is different: it’s set up as a recreation of a Shōwa-era dagashi (penny candy) shop, complete with retro sweets, glass-bottled drinks and a genuinely charming secondhand-arcade atmosphere.
Prices and What to Look For
The fifth floor is worth the trip on its own. Alongside the candy shelves sit working arcade cabinets — we found a Puyo Puyo machine still running — set among decor that leans hard into nostalgia rather than modern arcade design.
The Arcade on the Fifth Floor
It’s a small space, but it’s one of the more distinctive stops in Akihabara precisely because it isn’t trying to be a modern arcade. If you grew up with this era of games, or just want to see what a Japanese candy shop looked like decades ago, floor 5 delivers on both.
Before You Go
Hours: 11:00–20:00 weekdays, 10:00–20:00 weekends and public holidays. The retro game floors (3F–4F) and the dagashi-and-arcade floor (5F) are different enough in character that it’s worth budgeting time for both if retro games are the reason you came.
Payment and English support follow the same pattern as most specialist shops in the area — cards are generally accepted, but don’t expect much English beyond the basics.
